Biography
Sandra D. Thompson, D.M.A.
Sandra D. Thompson, D.M.A.
Dr. Sandra D. Thompson is a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma. She attended Crispus Attucks elementary school, East Junior High and Ponca City High School, home of the Wildcats. She was a member of the Big Blue Marching Band under the direction of Don K. Leavitt and the legendary Po-Hi Chorale under the direction of Robert Moore.
Sandra received her undergraduate degree in piano and music education from Oklahoma City University, a master’s degree from Central State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Oklahoma.
Sandra taught public school music for twelve years before joining the School of Music faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Sandra was awarded the Outstanding Conductor award from the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Distinguished Musician/Conductor award from the Charlie Christian Music Festival, awarded by BLAC! INC.
In 2013, she received the Vanderford Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Sandra is the artistic director of the Ambassadors’ Concert Choir, a member of the Evangelistic Baptist Church, and has served on the Board of Directors of Allied Arts, Baton and Keyboard Club, and the American Choral Directors Assoc.
