Guest artist Albert Cano Smit performs a piano concert on Sept. 12, 2024 in Radke Fine Arts Theatre joined by UCO cellist Shinyoung Kim.
Albert Cano Smit is an acclaimed Spanish-Dutch pianist with a growing international career. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras and delivered captivating recitals at prestigious venues worldwide. Albert is also an advocate for new music, earning numerous awards and prizes for his performances. In addition to his musical accomplishments, he speaks five languages and currently resides in New York City.

Shinyoung Kim is a dedicated educator and accomplished cellist with experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He has appeared as a soloist with groups such as the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra and the UCO Chamber Orchestra, and has performed in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, and the Chicago Symphony Center. Shinyoung has served as principal cellist for the University of Oklahoma Symphony and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. A passionate community servant, he frequently performs in nursing homes and senior centers, using music to give back.
Shinyoung is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and completed his studies at the University of Oklahoma, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. His teachers include Tess Remy-Schumacher, Jonathan Ruck, and Melissa Kraut, along with coaching from the Cleveland and Pacifica Quartets.
